The problem with that kind of mindset is that money comes and goes. I've had relatives that have made it big against all odds and wasted it. They just didn't know how to manage their money when they had it. 

They spent entire lifetimes struggling and as soon as anyone gave them a hand up, they clung to that hand so tightly that they pulled everyone around them down. What I've also found is that as your money goes up, so do your expenses - they tend to scale up one to one. 

And if you're not careful, you can triple your income and still be broke.

It feels good to succeed in business - but the rules in business are ALWAYS changing. Success isn't forever.

Even success can be limited and temporary.

I think of people who train their whole life to be a champion fighter. Now, if I'm in a room alone with that fighter they're obviously going to beat me in a fight. 

But that situation doesn't happen very often outside the realm of sports. This is why professional fighters don't go around fighting people in bars after they finished training. It's too dangerous. Someone might get a weapon or, more realistically, they might just have three or four friends in the room.

Money isn't everything - saving time is the real success, because you can't get it back.

Sometimes a business model shifts because a corporation half the country away changes their business model and you've got to find a way to keep up. 

And I know so many business owners who've had huge success under one business model, but just weren't able to adjust - a few years ago everybody was using stuff like HubSpot and Squidoo for SEO purposes. You barely hear about those guys anymore. 

What happened to them? 

Well, you got to adjust to the times or the times will adjust you. You can learn how to be successful, and you can have skills, but success is temporary. 

There's always a new fight just after the one you've had. 

All the time, we're making choices and declaring what we VALUE.

Money? Money is super important. And I would say that money is almost real. I mean, 99% of the time when you have a problem money can help solve it, but think of all the problems that money can't solve. 

If you're having a problem with your relationship, having a steady job won't help you. If you're talking about dividing the labor and taking care of your children, the fact that you have a steady job or a steady income doesn't solve these arguments. 

It doesn’t help if your spouse is feeling exhausted taking care of the kids. It doesn't paper over bad relationships with your family. And if you're in bad health, all of the money in the world can't stop you from feeling pain.

 Our choices in life, what we do with our bodies, they add up. 


It's not something with rules that we can make up or change as the years go on. When you lose your time, your time is gone. So when I work on my business as a Kindle publisher, I do my very best to make sure that I save my time. 

Time is important to me because I used to watch the clock, four hours a day working at retail on my feet, my back hurting, wishing that the time would melt away so that I can have a couple of hours to myself - and in the hours that I did have to myself I would be depressed. 

And I'd be wondering, "What am I doing with my life? What am I doing with my time?" Maybe you’ve been in that place before. And maybe that's part of what inspired you to join the Author's Inner Circle.

We can gather around and think about your situation and create trends. It’s dynamic, it’s well-guided, and more importantly, it has accountability mechanisms inside.

It's all about scale. Sounds kinda pithy, but it's true.

It seems like we're giving an easy answer to a complicated question. And when we do our KCF Live events, so many people come away from those events, thinking “I didn't understand that it could be this easy.” If you've been to our live events, you've already had that breakthrough and what we want to do is bring that breakthrough to you on a personal and continuing level.
